Tooth Contouring & Reshaping

As a part of cosmetic dentistry, tooth contouring (also known as tooth reshaping) can be completed in a single session without much hassle. To contour or reshape teeth is a procedure done to correct crooked, chipped, cracked or overlapping teeth for patients with the desire for a better smile. This dental practice can also be a substitute in certain cases for braces and other teeth alterations.

During this procedure, the patient’s tooth enamel is removed gently with either a drill or a laser. X-rays are done beforehand to determine the correct location and amount of pulp present. The dentist then proceeds to alter the existing teeth, whether that means trimming misshapen areas, shortening longer teeth or correcting a patient’s bite when necessary. After about 30 minutes, the patient’s teeth are smoothed and polished before they’re out the door to proceed with their daily activities.
